lyrics

Xanthippe’s Peony

The history book I found in the ladies in British Library says that Xanthippe ate her partner’s brain like a mantis does.
She got wisdom we will never know.
She had a mysterious flower in her back garden. The strong east wind had brought a seed.
It has layers of frilled pedals with a brushed red line at the rim like a first day of menstruation.
She realised that all flowers are sexual organs. We like and admire them and put some in our little rooms.
It is a magic only plants have. A quiet plant must be the most sexual creature on the earth, she thought.
Showing blossom of genitalia, “What are our sisters thinking about?” She wonders.
They only whisper the secret when we come closer to smell their scent.
It is revealed that the flower is called Peony.
